How the content on this site is produced: sourcing, review, updates, and the separation of content and advertising.
Sources
Every number belongs to one of three provenance classes: exact, measured or assumed. Measured values carry a source and retrieval date; assumptions are marked as such and editable. Primary sources — standards, official statistics, manufacturer datasheets, peer-reviewed publications — take precedence over secondary accounts. What cannot be substantiated is not published; it is tracked as an open item instead.
Expert review
Safety-critical calculators — those whose errors can lead to overload, overvoltage or fire — are reviewed by a qualified electrical professional before publication. The review note with name, qualification and date is shown on the calculator. Where review is still pending, we say so instead of hiding it.
Updates
Data carries an expiry date: electricity prices and feed-in rates are reviewed quarterly, emission factors annually, standards editions whenever a new edition is adopted. When a dataset expires, the automated checks fail until someone makes a decision. Every substantive change is recorded in the public changelog.
Use of tools
Calculation logic, data selection and editorial decisions are the operator’s responsibility. Software tools — including AI-assisted ones — are used during development; no content goes live unreviewed, and no number originates from a language model’s guess.
Separation of content and advertising
Advertising is labelled as such and has no influence on calculation logic, results or warnings. No calculator recommends a product because someone paid for it.
